really dumb piece, a good
really dumb piece, a good example of why i don't watch television.
The mocking of our political
The mocking of our political discourse (on Colbert and the Daily Show) is one of the more redeeming things left on TV.
I just wish Colbert would have focused on the dumbness of the the main candidates rather taking on the easy target "fringe" guy.
yeah, i was expecting to see
yeah, i was expecting to see haslam and wamp. these satirists do tend to take on the easy targets, as you say. i don't have cable so i'm somewhat insulated from fox, cnn, msnbc, history, comedy, and all the other good stuff ...
am stuck with the 'the truth' on the networks and pbs.
Well, The Birther Ramsey made it...
On "The List You Don't Want TO BE ON" on CNN's Rick's List on Wednesday...reason...his totally ignorant ranting about the Muslim Faith, the second largest Religion in the WORLD. And to make his rants worse, he started by proclaiming that he believes in freedom of religion in America! Doofus.
Dumb piece?
Dumb? This is why you don't watch television? This Marceaux guy is in synch with about 40 percent of voters in Tennessee. If you avoid that fact of life, you'll never understand the state where you live.
The appropriate response would be to register in the Rep primary and vote for Marceaux, because, unlike Haslam or Wamp, he could actually lose to a Dem in the general election.
But that's not how ivory-tower liberals operate. Better to tsk-tsk the lowbrows and continue to live in your fantasy world.
I'm certainly no ivory tower
I'm certainly no ivory tower anything but, the lesson I learned from the (wink wink) election of George "Dim Son" Bush is that what you want in the general is two qualified candidates. One of whom you prefer but either of whom could do an adequate job. We ended up with 8 years of presidential incompetence and administrative evil because I, and many, many others, thought there was no way the American people were blindly stupid enough to believe that Bush was qualified or capable. We were horribly wrong. A vehicle accident, illness, closet skeletons, family problems, money,or who knows what, could convince a candidate to drop out of the race at any given point. If the other candidate is Basil Marceaux or Zach Wamp, then that is who you have for a governor. If you are going to vote in the other team's primary, then you really want to vote for the absolute best candidate. Even if it takes the assistance of the Supremes, morons can be installed in the office regardless of how detrimental it is to the state or the nation.
I say we keep the race as a gubernatorial contest and have Haslam and McWherter as the candidates. If any of the other candidates on the evil side wins, it becomes a goobernatorial. And the state of TN will deserve all of the laughter it gets from the rest of the nation.
OK not to watch TV BUT...
Do you keep up with what's on the InterWebs???
Basil Marceaux undaunted by mockery of governor's bid
interesting website...
if you check out basilmarceaux.com you will find that he appears to support single-payer healthcare...to include dental as he says, "dental is not in most plans a tooth aches hurt more than a back aches and no teeths depresses people".
The funniest thing about that
The funniest thing about that bit is Colbert calling Ramsey the "clear favorite."
Colbert Endorses Ramsey?
I caught that, too. I wonder if Ramsey will use it to promote as an endorsement? Is he the clear favorite only because Colbert's research team didn't know one of the other candidates in the GOP primary was calling for secession and meeting the federal government at the border? Seems like those two are running redneck-and-redneck in a race to the bottom.
The Haslam campaign will likely be issuing a statement by Monday calling the Colbert Report "an obscure television program on an obscure network."
I dunno...
.. Marceaux appears to be just as qualified as most of the other GOP candidates. He's definitely no crazier than Wamp.
he's definitely the nicer guy
he's definitely the nicer guy ...
The 'Let's laugh at the
The 'Let's laugh at the mentally challenged guy who only has three teeth' makes me queasy for the same reason that the "Fellini Kroger" page pictures make me queasy.
Basil has actually hit on an issue I hear few talk about in the healthcare debate – dental care. It's a much-ignored health problem not included many conversations, nor in Medicare coverage. Every time I read about one of those RAM weekends, they talk about people who have been living with toothaches for months who show up the day before the clinic and wait all night in order to get teeth pulled.
entirely by coincidence, i've
entirely by coincidence, i've just read an article from 1956 on dental health in tennessee ..

Michael, darlin', let me swing by with a stack of old National Geographics later this week.

Me too. Basil seems like too easy a target to me.
