Has anyone else ever tried to

Has anyone else ever tried to get info from the State Ethics Commission?

There's a State Ethics Commission?

aka

ET-hics Commission. http://www.tn.gov/sos/tec/ Seriously? You never fish around on that site? It is interesting. Or sad.

I wanted to see what holdings Haslam had listed. Rather than seeing a list you see the words See Paper Filing ( attachment) with recipients Filer . This is also the same for CC Moon of Blount Co. So, I called them and was mailed hard copies of those documents.

Previously, I ran into that crazy 'see attached' in 2008. A phone call then netted me nothing but a clerk saying they did not have time to data enter all those long lists! WTF?

I don't like how some officials can mail in a list yet others take the time ( have their secretary take the time?) to do their own data entry.

Anyways, you'll learn all kinds of cool stuff there. Like Judges who have no investments? Wow. No wonder some of them can't retire!

Tennessee Ethics Commission
May 26, 2010
Minutes

Bill Lockett – 2010-036
Commissioner Knight made the motion to assess Class 1 and Class 2 penalties for a total of $10,000. Commissioner Neal seconded and the motion passed 4-0.

Commission Meeting Agenda
June 14, 2010, 9:00 a.m. (CDT)

5. Subject to Civil Penalty Assessments – Statement of Interests – Candidates:

16 candidates listed including
Shawn Carter, Sr. – 2010-061
No fines for all but a few of these 16 candidates. Carter was not fined and I don't think he should have been fined for simply filing late.

I do think someone someplace should actually be charged with reading the SS forms and following up on any questions.

Which brings me back around to Farmer's resignation from the Commission.

"It's to me a sad state that we're in in which people are not working together toward common goals," Farmer said. "They're trying to perpetuate their party or themselves.

"Money is far too much in politics, particularly once you get past the local level," he said. "The purchasing of power is really legally sanctioned."
